ISPAD 2014 - Conference President
Jill Hamilton, ISPAD 2014

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

What a wonderful honor and privilege it is to invite you to attend and participate in the 40th Annual Conference of ISPAD to be held from September 3rd to 6th 2014 in Toronto: The City Where Insulin was Discovered! The theme of ISPAD 2014 is: DIVERSITY IN DIABETES, appropriate on many levels. First, Toronto is one of the world’s most ethnically diverse cities. Second, diabetes research, education and care have exploded in many diverse directions, new diagnostic categories, new understandings of etiology and pathogenesis of all types of diabetes, many and varied approaches to therapy, molecular science, human and animal physiology, epidemiology, clinical trials, models of care”¦the list is endless! Toronto is also a stone’s throw away from the major North American cities, as well as the rugged outdoors of the north.

Toronto is the ideal city for ISPAD 2014: accessible, affordable, accommodating and, simply adorable! We promise a program of serious scientific and educational content featuring local and international faculty and addressing the major issues of the day: Diversity in Diabetes at the cutting edge. You will leave Toronto wanting to return, and that’s a promise!

But first and foremost, ISPAD and its annual conference are about improving the lives of children and youth with diabetes, and our meeting provides the ideal opportunity for those who have dedicated their careers to this goal to meet, discuss and share their wisdom in an atmosphere of collegiality and a spirit of optimism. ISPAD has come a long way since its humble beginnings in 1974, let’s come together in Toronto in 2014 to redouble our commitment to children and youth who meet the challenges of living with diabetes every single day.

Best regards,

ISPAD 2014 - Conference President
