COPES Spring Newsletter 2008
The Presidents and Secretaries of the existing pediatric endocrine societies established in 1989 a Communication Office of the Pediatric Endocrine Societies (COPES). The biannual newsletter publishes information on the meetings of the affiliated societies and other meetings of interest to pediatric endocrinology and diabetology.
ESPE/ISPAD Recorded Lectures Program
ESPE/ISPAD Recorded Lectures Program
The recorded lectures program is a joint project between ESPE and ISPAD. This program is designed to allow users from all over the world to gain knowledge in an accessible and flexible way. The portal offers the user the possibility to regulate his/her learning and to choose the preferred time to stimulate self-study as an adjunct to textbooks.
ISPAD Clinical Practice Consensus Guidelines 2009
Introduction
The 2009 ISPAD Clinical Practice Consensus Guidelines have now been published as a compendium in a Supplement to Pediatric Diabetes. We thank the international writing teams for their efforts in writing and updating these guidelines. The editors have been: Ragnar Hanas, Kim Donaghue, Georgeanna Klingensmith and Peter GF Swift.

ISPAD Science School for Health Professionals
Sixth ISPAD Science School for Health Professionals
This Science School will be held in Ljubljana, Slovenia, 30th Aug - 01. Sep 2009, immediately prior to the 36th Annual Scientific Meeting of ISPAD.
The 3 day Science School is a foundation course in research methodology designed for non-doctoral level dietitians, nurses, psychologists, and social workers (not MD’s) who have or wish to developing a research interest and expertise in diabetes in young people. All costs (economy flights, accommodation and meals) will be sponsored for the participants, which are limited to 15. Closing date for applications: February 15th, 2009.

The Fifth ISPAD Science School for Health Professionals will be held in Durban immediately prior to the 34th Annual Scientific Meeting of ISPAD.

The cost of the meeting will be covered by ISPAD. Participants will usually need to pay for their economy travel to Durban but this will be fully reimbursed.

The syllabus will cover a range of core topics including the pathophysiology of diabetes, epidemiology, genetics, complications risk, clinical trials and statistical methods, and will be supported by a faculty of internationally renowned experts from the Institute of Metabolic Sciences, University of Cambridge together with external speakers. Set in the historic and relaxed environment of Madingley Hall, near Cambridge, students will have the opportunity to explore and develop their research ideas under the tutelage of the resident faculty.

The Science School will be hosted by the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes, University of Colorado School of Medicine September 13-19 and is sponsored by Eli Lilly.
Fellows and junior faculty will be able to learn the latest clinical and clinically relevant research topics in a relaxed setting with faculty and students presenting both interesting cases and research plans. Topics to be covered by the faculty include genetics and immunology of type 1 diabetes, epidemiology of diabetes, type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance in children, risk factors for complications, and approaches to clinical translational research. Faculty will be available to provide research advice in didactic sessions and in more informal meetings.
