2nd ISPAD Post-graduate Course in Varna, Bulgaria
The second ISPAD Post-graduate Course “CONTEMPORARY DIABETES†was successfully carried out. During two days 25 foreign and 70 Bulgarian doctors and nurses vividly discussed clinical cases, interactive problems and listened to lectures concerning the contemporary views about childhood and adolescent diabetes. Such distinguished speakers as Sian Ellard (Exeter, UK), Orit Pinhas-Hamiel (Tel Hashomer,Israel), Jan Lebl (Prague, Czech Republic), Natasha Bratina (Ljubljana, Slovenia) and Stenvert Drop (Rotterdam, The Netherlands) took part in all discussions and demonstrations. Others like Francesco Chiarelli communicated with the audience through live Skype connection. Excellent atmosphere accompanied not only the lectures and friendly arguments, but also the conversations outside the lecture hall, backed up by the unexpectedly sunny weather for the season! The audience was able to live-witness the start of pump therapy in a 5 year old girl and to follow all procedures on screen. The participants (from Brazil, Estonia, Latvia, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, Monte Negro and Bulgaria) had the possibility to work for 2 hours in the still not opened for the general public ESPE e-learning portal and to see their own success in real time. New data and approaches were presented in the field of long-term diabetes complications as well as eating disorders among children with diabetes. The lay public presentation devoted to diabetes in cystic fibrosis (Stanislava Kolouskova, Czech Republic) was highly appreciated by parents, while the short session with oral presentations of Bulgarian research group results was not left unnoticed by the foreign participants.
We are now looking forward to the Third Varna ISPAD Postgraduate Course in 2015 that in the view of the current success would be a great challenge for Varna Pediatric Endocrine Society!
