ISPAD in Jordan: Report by Stephen A. Greene
Report from the Jordan Meeting
ISPAD was delighted to participate in a recent meeting in Amman, Jordan (May 13-16, 2013) hosted by the Jordanian Ministry of Health and the Jordanian Medical Association. The meeting and the programme constituted the 4th Congress of the Jordanian Society of Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism (JSED), 3rd Joint JSED-AACE Congress and 11th Pan Arab Congress of Endocrinology & Diabetes (PACED-11) and the 3rd Seminar of the International Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes (ISPAD).
In the two previous meetings that ISPAD contributed to, we had delivered a session on various aspects of diabetes in the young in a parallel session. At this meeting we were invited as joint hosts of the meeting and delivered a Plenary Symposium on “Diabetes Therapy” and “Diabetes Complications”. The programme was organised by Dr Abbas Qaddreh and Prof. Stephen Greene with six other ISPAD Members contributing to the symposium:
Management of the New Case (Stephen Greene-UK); The Targets of Type 1 Diabetes Therapy in Children and Adolescents (Christos Bartsocas-Greece); Education and Intensive Therapy (NataŠa Bratina-Slovenia); Behavioural Factors Influencing Glycaemia (Alan Delamater-USA); Vascular Complications (Carlo Acerini-UK); Diabetic Ketoacidosis (Abbas Qadreh-Greece); Hypoglycaemia (Christina Kanaka-Gantenbein-Greece); Communicating with Patients (Alexandra Greene-UK).
The programme was extremely well received and ISPAD will be part of future meetings in Jordan, a very popular venue for diabetologists and paediatricians across the whole of the Middle East Region.
Enormous thanks to Abbas Qaddreh who ran the ISPAD Programme with tremendous success and expertise.
