The 2013 ISPAD Science School for Physicians is being co-hosted by the Australasian Paediatric Endocrine Group (APEG) and held in conjunction with the APEG Annual Scientific Meeting (July 29th – 31st 2012), which follows the Science School. The program is aimed at fellows in paediatric diabetes whose fellowship consists of a research component. The course will enable fellows to enhance their knowledge in the principles of research methodology, including basic/laboratory and clinical/translational used in diabetes-related research. The 4½ day program will consist of lectures on study design, statistical analysis and presentation of research findings; as well plenary lectures by experts in key areas of basic/clinical diabetes research.
25 fellows will be selected from around the world based upon objective criteria, which will include research credentials, career intention and local support by diabetes research centres. Fellows from developing countries are encouraged to apply.
The faculty will include experienced local and international faculty. In addition to the core faculty, specialty lectures will be held by Australian experts in diabetes research, eg.
Prof Kim Donaghue, Prof Jenny Couper, Prof Fergus Cameron, Dr Shubha Srinivasan, Dr Trang Ly, Dr Stephen Twigg and Assoc. Prof Maria Craig (convenor). Local faculties will be supported by international faculty: Dr Lori Laffel (2014 convenor), Dr Bill Tamborlane, Dr Michael Haller and Prof Mikael Knip.
