Dr. Naina Bhat is a young Paediatric Endocrinologist from Bangalore, India. She then completed her training in Paediatric and Adolescent Endocrinology, at Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health one of the premier public sector children’s hospitals in Bangalore and one among the four centres which offer this training in India.

During her training in paediatric endocrinology, she has been a part of the Changing Diabetes in India (CDiC) programme, and has cared for more than 200 children with Type 1 diabetes. She then joined St. John’s Medical College and Hospital, where she was responsible for setting up and running the Paediatric Endocrinology clinic.

She has attended several national and international conferences, and has won awards for oral and poster presentations in the field of Paediatric Endocrinology. Her areas of interest include community based interventions related to diabetes and obesity. She strives to provide quality care and support to her patients with diabetes. She is particularly interested in qualitative research in the field of Paediatric Diabetes, as a stepping stone to identifying and addressing problem areas in healthcare delivery and utilization.

She has been interested in developing clinically relevant, low cost healthcare innovations and technology in the fields of Paediatrics and Endocrinology. Teaching paediatric residents has always been an important facet of her present and future plans.

While at Stanford, she hopes to learn finer details of setting up and running a multi-disciplinary diabetes clinic, to fine tune protocol based clinical management and to gain an insight into Artificial pancreas and oral insulin research and use this experience to help improve quality of life of children with diabetes in India.
