Elisa Giani

I applied for ISPAD membership during my residency, because I knew that pediatric diabetes is much more than just a profession. It is a field of science that I am truly passionate about.

Being part of the ISPAD community allows me to improve specific skills, keep up with progress in medicine, and have exciting chances to learn by staying in touch with diabetes specialists from across the globe.

In 2014, I had the honor to be one of the delegates at the ISPAD Science School in Boston. This amazing experience helped me to get more involved in diabetes research. It opened up new paths for me and helped me embark on a new journey as a Research Fellow at the Joslin Diabetes Center.

I like to think at ISPAD as an open space that enables open-minded individuals to communicate, collaborate, share ideas and work toward the common goal of curing diabetes. I was very fortunate to have met many imaginative friends at the ISPAD Science School. Together we started the “JENIOUS” group, which aims to encourage networking and foster career development among young ISPAD members.

So why should you join ISPAD? You should join because you are curious, you are creative, you are bright, you are collaborative, you are open-minded and you want to improve care.

Most importantly, you want to make “A better world for children with diabetes”.
