A message from ISPAD's President

Seasons greetings, and Happy New Year,

The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) biennial meeting was held last week in Busan, Korea. A number of us represented ISPAD including the traditional Presidential lecture; and other lectures from Asma Deeb, David Maahs, Ingrid Libman, Carmel Smart, Thomas Danne. We welcome the incoming President, Professor Andrew Boulton, from the United Kingdom.

Outcomes of the Kids and Diabetes in Schools (KiDS) project were presented with its implementation in Poland and Japan. The project was developed in collaboration with IDF and ISPAD during the Presidency of Stephen Greene. More information about the project can be found here. The IDF Diabetes Atlas 9th Edition was published on World Diabetes Day 2019. It is estimated that 1.1 million children and adolescents below 20 years have diabetes worldwide.

The ISPAD JDRF Global Collaboration launched at our 45th Annual Conference, in Boston, is progressing well. We also would like to anticipate that the T1D global index - standards of care survey will be sent to members in January 2020.

On behalf of the Executive Board, Advisory Council and K.I.T. Group Management, I wish you an enjoyable and safe holiday season. I look forward to meeting and hearing more from you in the coming year.
Kim Donaghue
ISPAD President 2018-2020
