ISPAD NEWS                                                              No. I / January 2020

A message from ISPAD's President

My January message comes from smoke-hazed Australia. Thank you for your kind messages of support to us during our horrendous bushfires. Let us hope that more can be done to minimise the risks for following years.

The program for ISPAD’s 46th Annual Conference in Abu Dhabi is nearing completion (Convenor Asma Deeb) and I hope you are all preparing your conference plans to visit this amazingly diverse emirate featuring desertscapes, oases, an ancient heritage city and a modern, cosmopolitan capital city. This includes the architectural marvels such as the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque (below) and the Louvre Abu Dhabi.

In 2020 the ISPAD-JDRF application process for scholarships is changing, with a different submission process for Drash Fellowships. Applicants no longer require a letter of support from the Host Centre: instead applicants nominate their preferences with their application. For the ISPAD-JDRF Research Fellowships preference will be given to applicants from UN designated lower and middle income countries for 1 of the additional 3 fellowships.

Happy New Year to all, with an exciting and (already) challenging year ahead. In this issue please also read the Annual Report from 2019.

Kim Donaghue
ISPAD President 2018-2020
