Allan Drash Clinical Fellowship

Billy Telcide
has arwarded Allan Drach Clinical Fellowship for 2016

Billy Roosler TELCIDE was born in December 1985 in the Artibonite region of Haiti and is the eldest of four boys. He developed his love of medicine from his mother who worked as a pediatric and maternity nurse for many years. Her dedication to providing the best care to mothers and their children inspired him to become a doctor. Billy moved to Port-au-Prince where he attended medical school from 2005 to 2012 at the State University of Haiti Hospital. Following his medical studies, he did a year of community service at Gros Morne. In 2013, Billy was among the first class of residents to begin the pediatric residency program at University Hospital of Mirebalais (HUM). As a resident, he manages the care of children with endocrinopathies, a majority of whom have diabetes, as in-patients and their outpatient follow-up. Despite the challenges of pursuing pediatric endocrinology in Haiti, Billy was able to find mentorship from an endocrinologist at Boston Children's Hospital. Billy is also a member of the European Society of Pediatric Endocrinology, where he takes e-learning programs that allow him to discuss interesting cases and learn about endocrinopathy through their teaching modules. In his last year of residency, Billy is conducting research on the epidemiological profile of malnourished children in the central plateau of Haiti and is facilitating a quality improvement project at HUM to reduce the duration of hospitalization for malnourished patients.  Billy is honored to be a member of the International Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes and hopes the learning opportunities affiliated with the society can help him improve the health of children in Haiti.
