Although the universal principles guiding diabetes education remain essentially unchanged the authors of this revision have explored the evidence for the role of digital technologies in supporting diabetes self-management. This is an important addition to the guidelines as this is a rapidly changing area providing opportunities to utilise technologies to assist people to acquire knowledge, confidence and practical diabetes self-management skills.
