Peter Bjornstad

was awarded the ISPAD JDRF Fellowship in 2017

Dr. Petter Bjornstad is a clinical researcher with a track record of research potential and success. His research focus is on metabolic and hemodynamic mechanisms underlying the development of diabetic kidney disease in type 1 and type 2 diabetes.Dr. Bjornstad theorizes that diabetic ketoacidosis, a condition associated with dehydration, metabolic acidosis and acute glycaemia, will be associated with tubular injury, which would present the earliest evidence of kidney disease in type 1 diabetes. The importance of this proposal relates to the major research and clinical need to better understand the initiating events contributing to early diabetic kidney disease in youth with type 1 diabetes.

 

Beata Malachowska
was awarded the ISPAD JDRF Fellowship in 2017

 

Beata Malachowska M.D. (born 9th October 1989) – a PhD student in Department of Biostatistics and Translational Medicine (Medical University of Lodz) and Postgraduate School of Molecular Medicine (Medical University of Warsaw) under the supervision of Prof. Wojciech Fendler. Her scientific work started in 2011 at the Polish Registry for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes project. She continued her work in the field, with particular focus on HNF1B-MODY and its pathogenesis and recently expanded with her skills onto the field of transcriptomic biomarkers. She was a co-author of more than 25 research articles indexed in Medline. During medical studies, results of her research work were presented during numerous domestic and international conferences (including ISPAD Annual Conferences 2013) and received numerous conference awards in Groningen, Netherlands domestic conferences for junior doctors. Her scientific achievements resulted in obtaining several scientific scholarships and awards including 2014 Polish Student Nobel Prize in life science – contest for the best Polish student of the year and recently ISPAD-JDRF Fellowship 2017.

 

Marie Beatrice Saade
was awarded the ISPAD JDRF Fellowship in 2017

 

Marie-Béatrice Saade completed her medical studies in Limoges, France, then pursued her pediatric training in Rennes, where she was certified as a pediatrician in 2012. She was a pediatric fellow at Rennes Pediatric University Hospital in France from 2013 to 2015.Dr. Saade completed a Master 2 from Paris Diderot University (Nutrition Metabolism and Signaling). She participated in a basic science research project in INRA Rennes with the group of Dr. Blat and Dr. Neunlist evaluating the impact of obesity on the pancreatic intrinsic nervous system and its effects on insulin secretion in the context of a European multi-center project entitled "Enteneurobesity".

 

Gianluca Tornese
was awarded the ISPAD JDRF Fellowship in 2017

Gianluca Tornese MD, PhD  was born in Brindisi (Italy) on December 1st, 1980. After earning his medical degree at the University of Siena (Italy) in 2005, he completed both his pediatric residency (2012) and PhD program (2016) at the University of Trieste (Italy), the latter with a thesis on the onset and progression of type 1 diabetes mellitus”. During his PhD program, in 2015 he was accepted as a research fellow at the University of Cambridge. At the present time, in addition to a busy clinical work, he teaches at the University of Trieste (both in medical school and pediatric residency program) and he is principal investigator in 4 running research projects on type 1 diabetes. His research interests focus on the role of autoimmunity in type 1 diabetes, monogenic diabetes and, recently, on the role of taste in the metabolic control of children and adolescent with type 1 diabetes. 

 

Mohammad Hosny
was awarded the Allan Drash Fellowship in 2017

Assistant Lecturer of Pediatric Diabetes and Endocrinology at Faculty of Medicine, Mansoura University, Mansoura, Egypt. Passed MBBCH, Master (M.Sc.) in pediatrics and MD exam in pediatrics 2008, 2013 and 2016 respectively. Working now at the Pediatric Diabetes and Endocrinology unit, Mansoura University Children Hospital, one of the largest referral centers all over Egypt for managing children with type 1 diabetes and different endocrinal problems. Member of several professional societies, both national and international, such as the Egyptian Society of Childhood Diabetes and Endocrinology (ESDEP), the Arab Society for Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes (ASPED) and the International Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes (ISPAD). Dr. Mohammad has previously been granted and attended the last ISPAD/ASPED Diabetes Postgraduate Course held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. 

 

Wafaa Laymoun
was awarded the Allan Drash Fellowship in 2017 

 

Wafaa Laymoun is working as a lecturer of pediatric endocrinology and diabetes at Mansoura Faculty of medicine and she is responsible for teaching medical students, fellows, nurses and health care professionals at the regional level. She is running specialized outpatient clinics and she provides clinical supervision for the inpatient cases. She was awarded travel grants to attend ASPED/ISPAD, ASPED/ESPE and ESPE-Diabetes Obesity Metabolism schools in 2015 and 2016 as well as an ESPE clinical fellowship. She is currently devoted to pediatric diabetes to be the next step in her career and education. She is dedicated to creating a national registry system for diabetes mellitus in children and adolescents in Egypt starting with the Delta region. Her second future plan is to establish insulin pump and continuous glucose monitoring services at her center.

 

Naina Bhat

was awarded one of the Allan Drash Fellowship in 2017

 

 

Dr. Naina Bhat is a young Paediatric Endocrinologist from Bangalore, India. She completed her residency in Paediatrics and was awarded the Gold Medal in Paediatrics in the All India exit examination by the National Board of Examinations, Ministry of Health, Government of India. She then completed her training in Paediatric and Adolescent Endocrinology, at Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health one of the premier public sector children’s hospitals in Bangalore and one among the four centres which offer this training in India.

 

Feny Patel 
  was awarded one of Allan Drash Fellowship in 2017

Feny Patel is working for Diacare - Diabetes and Hormone Clinic Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India, since 2014. She is involved in many research papers and projects such as “Changing Diabetes in Children- CDIC” and “Life for A Child -LFAC “. She aspires to pursue dedicating herself to Pediatric Diabetology, to the Type 1 as well as to the young adolescents and she aims at improving the existing standards of care, treatment, and education for Type 1 diabetes in India thanks to improvement in technology and management.

 

 

Joshua Ngwang Menang 
  was awarded one of Allan Drash Fellowship in 2017

Joshua Ngwang Menang is working for CALMEF Practice Cameroon since 2008 and is dedicated to building a better diabetes care program for his community. He is studying the impact of local dishes on type 1 diabetes and has translated several diabetes handouts into the local dialects. He is also interested in basic clinical sciences and researches, especially in critical pediatric care.

 

Dr. Arun Kumar Singh
  was awarded one of Allan Drash Fellowship in 2017

Arun Kumar Singh is a Pediatrician, Neonatologist at Department of Pediatrics & Adolescents associated with B. P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan, Nepal, working for the child health sector and interested in treatment and management of Diabetics, Diabetics Type 1 and Diabetics Ketoacidosis and Endocrine Disease in Children.

 

Alfonso Galderisi
  was awarded one of ISPAD's Research Fellowship in 2016

Alfonso Galderisi was born in Naples (Italy) on 27.08.1986. He has spent most of his medical and post-degree training working on pediatric diabetes and glycemic control, being involved in both translation research and clinical trials in pediatric diabetology.

 

Maddalena Macedoni
  was awarded one of ISPAD's Research Fellowship in 2015

 Maddalena fellowship winner 2015

Graduated in Medicine in 2009 at The University of Milan, Maddalena Macedoni joined the Battelino's research Group at the University Children’s Hospital of Ljubljana after being awarded the 2015 ISPAD Research Fellowship Grant. She there studied the effect of new technology in improving hypoglicemia after physical exercise.
