Ragnar Hanas

My first ISPAD meeting was back in 1988, and I became a member the year after. What has made me stay as a member throughout the years?

We discussed membership benefits at our Executive Committee meeting this January, i.e. what are the benefits for the individual member: The journal Pediatric Diabetes? Access to discussion forums? Discount on registration at the annual meetings? The list can be longer, but we must always remember our motto: “A better world for children with diabetes”. We discussed the philanthropic aspects of being a member of the ISPAD charity. For those of you that are not aware of this, ISPAD is registered as a charity in the UK. With this in mind, we can add other benefits for our members, i.e. the “feeling of good”, as being a member in a very concrete way helps us to help children with diabetes to a better life through our various activities around the world. Members that take part themselves in these activities are equally important to those that support our society by paying their membership fees, thereby helping us to help. As we recently have expanded the age group where we want to stay engaged to include young adults up to age 25, the number of young people with diabetes that benefit from your (paid) membership almost doubles in numbers. We know that there are a number of ISPAD friends around the world who have been members, but have not renewed for various reasons. We now encourage you to take this important step, and for all other readers to join ISPAD by becoming paid-up members to help us fulfill our motto, and get some personal benefits as a bonus.

Best regards,

Ragnar Hanas
