Mumbai, India, April 17, 2016

The ISPAD/UDF (United Diabetes Forum) half-day workshop was organized during the conference of Challenges In Diabetes 2016 on 17th April 2016 in Mumbai, India under the auspices of United Diabetes Forum, represented by Dr. Manoj Chawla.

The current President of ISPAD, Dr. Ragnar Hanas from Sweden initiated the sessions with a talk on 'The first month of type 1 diabetes – a window of opportunity'. This was then followed by educative sessions by renowned endocrinologists & paediatricians from all over India covering different aspects of Diabetes in the pediatric age group. The topics discussed were:

- Targets in pediatric diabetes by Dr. Rishi Shukla
- SMBG recommendations by Dr. Banshi Saboo
- Psychosocial aspects by Dr. Mathew John
- Hypoglycemia in type 1 diabetes by Dr. Sudha Rao
- Overcoming the various challenges by Dr. Ragnar Hanas

This was followed by extensive discussion by the delegates with the experts & panelists.
It was a very well attended interactive session with over 400 delegates including pediatricians from all over the country. This symposia gave an insight into the less discussed topic of Diabetes in the pediatric and adolescent age group, which is on a constant rise, thereby requiring an increased attention.
UDF is planning to take this initiative forward by promoting the awareness of diabetes in our young population by holding workshops in various schools & colleges.
