Yasmine Elhenawy

was awarded the Allan Drash Clinical Fellowship for 2019

Yasmine Elhenawy finished her MD degree in pediatrics in, 2012 from Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt. Recently on May 2019, she has been promoted as an associate professor of pediatrics, Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University.

Currently, she is working as a staff member of Pediatric and Adolescent diabetes unit (PADU) at Ain Shams University Hospital, a tertiary educational hospital, one of the largest referral centers all over Egypt for managing children with diabetes.

From 2012, she had the opportunity to manage multiple patients with type1 diabetes as well as patients with type 2 and monogenic diabetes.  She became a tutor for medical students, fellow and nurses.  She has developed a special interest in research and has few international publications.

She is a member of ISPAD since July, 2018. By the help of ISPAD, she had to opportunity to attend the 5th ASPED- ISPAD Lilly Diabetes Academy and was awarded as one of the best researches and presented her research in the main program. She was also awarded a travel grant to the 1st Joint EASD/ ISPAD/ESPE Postgraduate Education.

Currently, she is devoted to pediatric diabetes aiming to continuously update her knowledge and nourish her experience, which helps her provide the best care for her patients and patients with type 1 diabetes in Egypt, a developing country with limited resources. Recently, her researches are concerning diabetic microvascular complications.

She is planning to create a national registry system for diabetes mellitus in children and adolescents in Egypt. She also plans to establish insulin pump and continuous glucose monitoring services at her center.

Finally, Yasmine is very grateful about being awarded ISPAD Allen Drash fellowship. She expresses her greatest gratitude to ISPAD which always supports and offers chances for researchers from all over the world.
