About ADECA
The Allied Healthcare Professionals Pediatric Diabetes Educator Course for Africa (ADECA) is delighted to announce that applications for Cohort 3 (2026–2027) are now open!
ADECA is a fully funded, one-year hybrid training program sponsored by ISPAD. It is designed to strengthen the skills of pediatric diabetes nurse educators across Africa, equipping participants with the knowledge and competencies needed to improve care, management, and outcomes for children and adolescents living with diabetes.

Key Dates (Cohort 3: 2026–2027)
• Application Deadline: 20 December 2025
• Induction: May 2026
• Start of Online Course: June 2026
• 2-week In-person Training (Tanzania): September 2026
• Final 1-week In-person Training & Graduation (Tanzania): May 2027
Eligibility
Applications are invited from registered pediatric nurses currently practicing in any sub-Saharan African country.
Preference will be given to applicants who:
1. Are actively involved in the care of children and young people with diabetes, OR
2. Work as lecturers in training institutions (universities, schools of nursing, etc.) and are committed to establishing similar courses in their institutions.
Application Requirements
Applicants must submit:
1. Curriculum Vitae (CV)
2. Personal statement explaining motivation for attending the course
3. Letter from a Paediatric Endocrinologist or Paediatric Diabetes Nurse Educator confirming willingness to mentor during the course
4. Letter from a senior manager at your workplace confirming:
• Release for course participation
• Ongoing involvement in pediatric diabetes care (or, for lecturers, involvement in training nurses in a formal course) for at least 2 years
