Ramadan for Youth with Diabetes: Guidance from the ISPAD Guidelines (NL Draft 2)
Ramadan and other religious fasting practices are important spiritual observances for many young people and families worldwide. The ISPAD Clinical Practice Consensus Guidelines include a dedicated chapter on Ramadan and religious fasting in young people with diabetes, providing evidence-based recommendations to support safe participation in fasting.
The chapter addresses risk assessment, individualized clinical decision-making, glucose monitoring strategies, insulin and therapy adjustments, nutrition and hydration guidance, and education for families and healthcare teams.
We encourage clinicians and families to explore this chapter in the ISPAD Guidelines to ensure informed, safe, and individualized care during Ramadan and other periods of religious fasting.
