The ISPAD Special Interest Group (SIG) on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Diabetes Care aims to advance understanding, education, implementation, and responsible use of AI technologies across pediatric diabetes care.
The ISPAD Special Interest Group (SIG) on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Diabetes Care aims to advance understanding, education, implementation, and responsible use of AI technologies across pediatric diabetes care. As AI applications rapidly expand within healthcare, they have the potential to support clinical decision-making, improve diabetes technologies, enhance education, facilitate earlier diagnosis, and optimize healthcare delivery. At the same time, important challenges related to ethics, governance, equity, safety, and implementation must be carefully addressed. Based on the priorities identified by the group and the development of the forthcoming ISPAD Clinical Practice Consensus Guidelines chapter on AI, the SIG will promote a balanced, evidence-informed, and clinically relevant approach to AI in diabetes care.
This SIG will bring together clinicians, researchers, healthcare professionals, educators, technology experts, people living with diabetes, and other stakeholders who share an interest in the responsible integration of AI into pediatric diabetes care. The group will provide an international forum to exchange knowledge, identify opportunities and challenges, develop educational initiatives, and support the generation and dissemination of best practices.
The SIG will focus on key areas including:
The SIG will foster international collaboration and multidisciplinary partnerships to ensure that AI technologies are developed, evaluated, and implemented in ways that are safe, equitable, clinically meaningful, and beneficial for children, adolescents, and young adults living with diabetes. Through education, knowledge exchange, research collaboration, and guidance development, the group seeks to help shape the future role of AI within pediatric diabetes care and within ISPAD.
A future in which artificial intelligence is used responsibly, safely, and equitably to improve diabetes outcomes, healthcare delivery, education, and quality of life for children, adolescents, and young adults living with diabetes worldwide.
To lead international collaboration, education, guidance development, and knowledge exchange that support the responsible integration of artificial intelligence into pediatric diabetes care while promoting equity, safety, transparency, and improved health outcomes.
