Allan Drash Clinical Fellowship

ISPAD's Allan Drash Clinical Fellowship (USD 7,500)

The Allan Drash Clinical Fellowship, in partnership with Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF), is for ISPAD members seeking to expand their clinical experience in diabetes management.

About Allan Drash

The ISPAD Allan Drash Clinical Fellowship, in partnership with Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF), is for ISPAD members* seeking to expand their clinical experience in diabetes management.

Physicians as well as non-physicians* can apply. The award is currently for USD 7,500 and is intended for spending approximately 4 to 6 weeks at an ISPAD Drash Host Center to learn, for example, programmatic issues, clinical care, setting up a program or a clinical study. Having in mind many benefits that active participation in research brings to individual's clinical practice, depending on the host center, research education and activities are possible during the Allan Drash fellowship.

During the application process the applicants will list and rank three choices from the list of host centers available below. They will state the reasons for choosing these centers in their application letter. The letter will also detail a description of his/her objectives and goals. Applicants are therefore not required to contact a potential host center nor do host centers need to sponsor proposals.

ISPAD Fellowship Committee will allocate the applicants to the host centers based on their choices, however fellowship awardees could be matched to any one of the Drash Host centers depending on the availability at each center.

The funded applicant will be expected to submit two reports:

  • One report within 2 months of completion of the fellowship.
  • A second report 12 months after the fellowship, describing the outcome(s) and benefit(s), to the applicant’s own center resulting from the participation in the Allan Drash Fellowship.

NOTE: Applicants from developing and middle-income nations will be given preference in the review process as they will most benefit from an opportunity to learn at an ISPAD Drash Host Center and then apply their experience to improve diabetes care in their country of origin.

Expected fellowship start: October 2026-June 2027. Please adhere to this timeframe as much as possible.

* Applicants are required to have a valid ISPAD membership at the time of their application.

Apply here before April 15th, 2026!
