ISPAD LRS-SIG – Abstract Mentoring Program

Add to cal

Virtual

Dear Members of ISPAD LRS-SIG,

We are initiating an experiment we are excited by and hope to excite you with! An Abstract Mentoring Program for members of this SIG, to see if we can improve the quantity and quality of the data from our regions.

Background:
Many of us working in LRS are working independently in stand-alone clinics or small hospitals, with little or no academic collaboration. We would like to share something but are uncertain of the quality of the content or writing. We lack financial or logistic support and have no mentors to guide us if we try to collate, analyze, and write up our data/experience, so we end up not trying and valuable material may never see the light of day.

If we were to start putting things together, and share it with mentor volunteers and amongst ourselves to help us with "an outside look," we could improve many aspects – some easily, some with more effort. Sometimes it may be vague reporting of data, which could be framed more precisely; sometimes it may just be inadequate English becoming a barrier in conveying what we want to say.

Proposal:
We invite you – members of LRS-SIG – to write up potential abstracts for ISPAD meetings 2026 onwards and share the drafts for brainstorming and suggestions about how to improve them:

Can more details be added?

Can more data be collected to make it stronger?

Could the language be tweaked a little to make it clearer?

These drafts will be discussed in 60–75 min meetings, every 3 months initially. The authors then work further on them and may choose to come back to the group with improved versions. At whichever stage the authors are happy with what they have, they can submit formally to the annual ISPAD meeting.

We also invite members of the LRS-SIG willing to be mentors, to volunteer as mentors.

First Meeting:

Drafts due: 7 September 2025

Zoom discussion: 17 September 2025, 10 am CEST
(This will be an informal discussion, not a webinar with formal presentations.)
