This group brings together professionals passionate about ensuring that young people with type 2 diabetes receive the care and support they need to manage their condition effectively and lead healthy lives. It aims to create a platform for sharing experiences and resources and discussing challenging issues, especially as they relate to lifestyle (diet and activity) management, medication use, and management of related comorbidities.

Joining the Youth-onset Type 2 Diabetes SIG offers a valuable opportunity to enhance your professional skills, contribute to meaningful research, and be part of a supportive and dynamic community dedicated to improving diabetes care and education for youth with type 2 diabetes.

About

There has been a rapid increase in the number of youths with type 2 diabetes worldwide.  This chronic condition is associated with high rates of diabetes-related complications and tremendous social, personal, and financial burdens. New therapies are now available to treat youth-onset type 2 diabetes, but there are significant access issues, and the long-term risks are still being investigated. The ISPAD 2022 clinical practice consensus guidelines for type 2 diabetes in children and adolescents advocate for the early detection and treatment of type 2 diabetes in youth to prevent or delay the onset of long-term complications.
